F3 Fighter Video

Got my hands on a Go Pro camera for a few days and decided to make a video for the one year anniversary of my F3 Fighter X1 electric bike.

Over the last year I’ve piloted the old girl nearly every other day for 10 miles, sometimes 20. She has put in lots of hours and will soon be retired as I begin work on X2.

Inspired by other car optimization genetic algorithm projects I decided to build my own. GAr is a genetic algorithm for optimizing a load carrying vehicle. the video demonstrates the following:
- Testing the initial population
- Breeding new generations
- Different evolution strategies
- Cave obstacle changes the requirements for the population
- Cave is introduced mid way during the simulation

Given a source image GAraw will try to evolve an starting population randomly generated images to match the source.

The video is is of 100 and 90,000 chromosome test.

Numo is a genetic algorithm with the goal of evolving an equation with a sum equal to a user supplied value.  This algorithm does not use roulette wheel selection and in future experiments I will compare the performance of my selection process with some of the well known and established method.

So why does one need a new section process anyway? It’s true there are lot’s of ways to go about selection.  In my reading thus far it seems that each selection methods has pros and cons. Processing speed, storage, and memory, number of chromosomes, population size, and number of generation to run a simulation all play a large role in choosing a selection method.

The results “shown below” seem promising and sparked my interest to further experiment.

3D maker and reader are Processing programs that work together to generate DIY instructions for turning an image into a 3D sculpture.

3D Maker reads the image and outputs a txt file with pixel values. 3D Reader prints the image with corresponding pixel value as a DIY instruction sheet.

The sculpture can be made of many diff materials. You would require 2,700 Pencils sharpened to varying heights. To build each layer independantly one would need around 31,156 pieces of something. Lego blocks, Soda cans, or Sugar cubes might do nicely.

A picture is used as source of food for a colony of virtual spores. Spores will die if starved, and reproduce if fed.

The placement and quantity of spores make a significant difference in speed and characteristics of the spread. In the first test 4 spores are randomly generated to seed the colony. In the second test only 1 spore is used.

The b in bSpore stands for brightness, brighter pixel store more energy. Yum!
